I’ve Experienced the Next Age of AI and I’ll Never Go Back
How to talk about artificial general intelligence (AGI) and “superintelligence” – yes, OpenAI boss Sam Altman is now talking about it – it heats up, we have another buzzword to deal with.
say hello to AI agent. In simpler terms, artificial intelligence agents that are supposed to automate a part of our digital tasks. think about Gems in the Google lexicon. Custom GPTs by OpenAI. EITHER Microsoft Copilot Stock.
The idea is that an AI does your task, or a part of it. Qualcomm and MediaTek have already prepared their silicon for the era of agent AI. But here’s the problem. We still don’t have a true agent AI tool. We’ve barely surpassed the query-response transaction flow that most generative AI chatbots offer.
Enter the deep investigation, the first agent AI product in the Gemini family.
A fundamental rethinking of Internet search

As its name makes very clear, Deep Research is good at research, but in a much more controlled way than your average Google Search. With Deep Research, you can design your search outline before the process begins.
You can specify the exact fonts (or type of fonts) to get the results. This is fundamentally different from Google Search, which primarily responds to grouped keywords and displays results that it deems worthy of attention.
This is a fundamentally flawed approach and we often end up in a cesspool of clickbait or AI-generated jargon. Additionally, Google’s random changes to its search algorithm often mean that search results for the same query may look different a day or a week later.
Deep Research extracts material from a knowledge bank controlled and specified by the user. So, let’s say you’re trying to find information about the impact of social media on the mental health of young users, but only from peer-reviewed research articles. The results would be limited to scientific articles.

For journalists, students, researchers or even entrepreneurs, this approach saves a lot of time. More importantly, it does not place the responsibility on the user to trust a source.
You are already familiar with the source or its veracity, so the material you obtain does not raise any trust issues. Furthermore, the task of skipping bad and unwanted ads or search results simply does not exist in Deep Research, at least at this time.
Basically, Deep Research writes a multi-step search activity, finds the information on your behalf, and repeats the process as the “search agent” moves from one source to the next, searching for new relevant information.
Basically, it saves you the monotony of coming across the same information while jumping between different search results, hoping to find the wisdom you seek. Simply put, you avoid the psychologically infuriating and time-consuming parts of a Google search.
That’s not even the best part of Deep Research.
Useful, in the right way
This is how Deep Research lists the sources of all the information it has collected. Nadeem Sarwar / Digital Trends
Researching and finding information from credible sources is only half the picture here. Deep Research eliminates the hassle of clicking back and forth between different search result entries or opening a few dozen tabs.
The most important of all is the search for that exact nugget of information embedded in a wall of text, video or audio. Deep Research not only obtains reliable information from the sources it has selected, but also presents all those findings in a coherent and non-repetitive way.
Just what you want, from the sources you want.
Now, unless your search task involves a single-step reference on the Internet, you should break the process into several steps. So, let’s say you want to learn about the art of mushroom growing. Ideally, you should seek information on seed varieties, climatic conditions, pest mitigation, and diseases separately. It is difficult to find a definitive guide, especially one drawn from reliable sources.
Deep Research does just that for you. All the information you’ve scoured the web to gather will be presented in the form of a carefully curated article, with appropriate headlines, tables, and categorical breakdowns.

It’s the type of search report that would otherwise take you hours to internalize and develop into document form. For anyone who is in the profession of consulting and memorizing knowledge on a daily basis, this tool is a lifesaver.
