Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge shows what the Galaxy S25 series should have been

Samsung fans can finally rejoice, since we have something really different with the Galaxy S25 series. No, it’s not the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plusor the Galaxy S25 UltraBut rather, the new Galaxy S25 Edge. Yes, Samsung has revived its Edge brand, and in many ways, follow the essence of the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge of years ago.
After the credits shot in Samsung unpacked Last week, and when some people reached the exits, the company achieved a more interesting thing. It was not a teaser like the Galaxy ring Last year, but rather it was an announcement, at least, of the new Galaxy S25 Edge.
The rumors were true; Samsung has made a thin phone, but unfortunately, it is not part of the main Galaxy S25 series. This is what you need to know and why the Galaxy S25 EDGE is the Galaxy S25 that we should have obtained.
The rumoured Galaxy S25 Slim is actually the Galaxy S25 Edge.

To understand the Galaxy S25 EDGE, you must understand Samsung’s motivations. It is rumored that Apple is working on an air on iPhone 17, which will be its thinnest iPhone, and the S25 EDGE Galaxy is Samsung’s response to that.
Nicknamed the Galaxy S25 Slim in the rumors prior to the announcement, Samsung was expected to do something really thin, but what was shown only offers some of this. While the iPhone 17 Air It is rumored that it is as thin as the iPad Pro M4 – Which is extremely thin, the Galaxy S25 EDGE is a little thinner than the Galaxy S25 series and does not seem to be so innovative.
Samsung’s announcement was followed by a hurry to see him suspended next to the molds of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25 series, without a clear indication of how thin it will be. At first glance, it seems to be a little thinner, which could explain why it is marked as the Galaxy S25 Edge and not the Galaxy S25 Slim.
This is the Galaxy S25 that we probably expect

The Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra are a little thinner than their predecessors, with the specifications of specifications that reveal a thinning of 0.4 mm of the body. They are also lighter to six grams, seven grams and 17 grams lighter than their predecessors, but these are the small increases that we expect from interannual improvements.
Each of these improvements has greatly improved the general sensation of the phone and, as I write in the Ultra Galaxy S25, the thinner body makes a very improved ergonomic sensation. However, if you expected something really special from the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy S25 EDGE is probably the phone you wanted.
We talked to Samsung, who confirmed that the Galaxy S25 EDGE will have approximately 6 mm thick, which would do it 1.2 mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S25 base. That is a great improvement and it would make the Galaxy S25 border a more innovative smartphone than the rest of its compatriots. However, it is also worth noting that the thinner body comes with certain compensation.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is an example of commitment
Ask most customers about having a thinner phone and, of course, there will be a lot of interest, followed by concern about certain key factors. These are durability, battery life and, of course, the camera stack. We cannot answer two of these questions with any degree of certainty, but we can partially answer one: the camera battery.
It is rumored that the iPhone 17 Air presents a single camera, so, naturally, Samsung had an Apple and equipped the Galaxy S25 EDGE with a dual camera battery arranged in a vertical alignment. It reminds me of the previous Galaxy S20, as well as the iPhone 6 series in its disposition and style.

Samsung has not confirmed details of which cameras appear in the Galaxy S25 Edge, but the previous rumors suggested that we would see a dual camera configuration with a 200MP main camera and an ultrawide camera of 50MP. Essentially, it would be the Ultra Galaxy S25 without the teleobjective cameras, but in a body it is 2.2 mm thinner.
If these rumors are true, this could be one of the best thick balances and characteristics on a Samsung phone, but how innovative is it?
How thin and innovative is the Galaxy S25 EDGE?

Smart phones have become thicker as customers have demanded more cameras, larger batteries and larger screens. As this has become the norm, compensation has been thicker phones, but years ago, the trend was to make more thin. Huawei Ascend P6 is a great example of thin phones, and remains one of the thinnest phones ever done, measuring only 6.5 mm thick. However, it had a 4.7 -inch screen, a single camera and only a 2,000 mAh battery, all specifications that would not be acceptable to current standards.
That was a decade ago, but only two months ago, we saw the infiinix hot 50 pro plus, which measures 6.8 mm thin and weighs only 162 grams. It has a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera, which would not be acceptable for a Samsung flagship phone. However, its 5,000 mAh battery and its wired 33W load would be considered more acceptable.

The best example of the current trend of thin and light phones is not on the standard phones of the caramel bar, but in the folding telephone industry where the race to be the thinnest has been at full speed. Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition measuring 4.9 mm deployed (and 10.6 mm folding), in response to the Honor Magic V3 which measures only 4.4 mm deployed and 9.3 mm folding.
Folding phones have the clear advantage of being able to use divided batteries and have a broader surface area to extend technology among which allows a thinner general profile. However, they also present two screens, so it comes with their compensation.
The Galaxy S25 EDGE aims to carry the best of the thinnest folding space to regular smartphones, and probably start a completely new era of thinner and lighter smartphone. It remains to be seen how companies such as Honor, Huawei, Oppo and OnePlus will respond, but one thing is safe: Samsung needs to make sure that the Galaxy S25 Edge is the most competitive that can be when it is launched, as its rivals, including Apple: everyone will compete for the thinnest phone title.
